Our Camps
Camp Schedule
Within three years, Showdown grew from a single summer workshop to three camps across the country.  Our goal is
to keep moving forward and increase the impact of the program by:

Rolling out two more camps in the next year
Initiating a year-long program in LA.

Increase the number of teens participating in all camps by 20% each year.

SUMMER CAMPS have been offered in Clearwater Florida, 2004 - 05 - 06.  In Los
Angeles in 2005 - 2006.  Jefferson City Missouri 2006. Shafter California in 2010. We
have plans to expand to 3 more cities in the next few years.

Mornings are devoted to classes.  Students can choose from Acting, Directing,
Playwriting, Composing, Stage Movement, Dance, Musical Theater, Stage Craft and
Technical Theater.  They go to three one-hour classes a day, taught by professionals
who actually make their living in the entertainment industry.

After lunch it's into rehearsals of a full scale production that ends with performances
before an audience.

Students have hands on experience in all aspects of theater.  They help design and
build the sets. The help design and construct costumes.  They learn to hang lights and
design and lighting scheme. They design and run the sound. Stage manage. House
manage.  Playwriting students have the option to write the shows for upcoming
seasons.

We put our emphasis on original shows.  This gives the students a chance to create
something never before seen.  A chance to breathe life into new characters, to design a
set that relies on nothing but imagination.

Under the guidance of veteran composer Dennis Poore, students even get to write
songs for the show.
Classes and ongoing instruction build and solidify teens strengths and talents.

Supportive adult mentoring relationships nurture trust in authority figures.

First rate original productions build their self-confidence, sense of achievement, and a passion for reading, especially the
classics.
Summer Camps
Year round after-school programs

Our ongoing after-school programs in Los Angeles continue to offer classes in Acting, Writing, Dance, Composing, Musical Theater
and Directing.  But here, students get to work on original projects of their own.  Learning skills from the staff, they will write, compose
and perform in an unique show all their own.

In addition we are
offering a two-year Apprentice Program that takes teens from theater classes to employability.

Students gain teaching skills to become camp leaders and teachers

Year One: growth and goal setting.
